Sugar free candy is also one of the top selling sugar free foods since people of all ages enjoy the sweet taste it provides. Just because there is no sugar added, however, doesn't mean the candy doesn't still taste sweet and flavorful. As with many other sugar free alternatives, there are many sugar free candy options that will satisfy your sweet tooth just as well as their sugary counterparts - but without the carbs and calories.

As with most other types of sugar free foods, sugar free candy is usually made with a sugar substitute or artificial sweetener to keep its flavor locked in. However, some sugar free candy is made with no sugar, saccharin or preservatives, and it still tastes as great as any sugar product. This is also a benefit for people who are on low carb (carbohydrate) diets as sugar is a carbohydrate and if it isn't present in the candy then the carbs are lowered along with the calories. Sugar free candies are also ideal for many diabetic people, but they should consult their doctor before adding anything new to their diet.

There are many types and flavors of mouthwatering candies presently available on the market, including those you had when you were young. These include mints, chocolates, fudge, toffee, fruit candy, gummy candy, hard candy, chewy candy, bubble gum, licorice and rock candy, etc. Many of the large candy manufacturers have noticed the growing popularity of sugar free candy and most of them are producing a line of sugar free treats.

Most of these candies are also ideal for the kiddies since sweeteners are better for their teeth than sugar is, at least cavity wise. Of course they can still crack a tooth by biting down on a hard piece of candy. Sugar free candy is a very popular item to place in gift baskets and diabetic gift baskets and obviously goes over extremely well during holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

Because of the popularity of sugar free candy, you should have no problem finding a wide selection of it in your supermarket or local confectioner. Although many candies may be advertised and labeled as sugar free, make sure that you check the nutritional facts on the labels to ensure they meet your dietary needs.
